December 2013: A Month And Almost Half A Year In Review

And so ends this first four months or so of this photography blog here. 2013 has been a superb overall year for my photography. I began to take bolder chances-even something seemingly simple as asking a car to be stopped (when someone else drove it) to take a photo when it moves me. Having said that,I cannot exactly say I am happy with the lack of viewership and feedback this blog has been receiving. I'm well aware it takes time for any new venture to make an impact on people. Especially if promotion isn't your strong point. So first of all I'd like to announce I will be making some personal changes to the way this blog is arranged in the year to come.

Second of all I am going to see how much more I can do to reach out for audience participation. It would be extremely helpful if any of you readers of this blog would comment on this particular New Years post with any helpful suggestions on how to promote this blog to a wider audience in the coming year. This is something I was hoping to do early on in creating this blog. But since it apparently didn't I am asking again. Its apparent a lot of you very much enjoy the photos I am posting. I am not asking for any financial help of any kind. Just any help in expanding the exposure of what I am offering here. Anyway enjoy this end of the month/end of the year set of photographs and enjoy your New Years celebration!

Ice Storm Of December 2013

On Sunday Decmber 22'nd,2013 a massive ice storm of freezing rain set upon the state of Maine, and likely much of New England. Of course the first time I heard of the term ice storm was in 1998,when my families home lost power along with almost everyone across the state one January night after layers of freezing snow and ice fell upon each other-weighing down tree limbs that knocked out power lines. During that 1998 storm, snow persisted and it was far too dangerous to walk out amid it all. This time there were windows to go outside and photograph this similarly destructive event. Destructive that is to power lines. But it also created unique ice formations over the trees-creating a sort of magical crystal forest around the area. Shot on and a few days before Christmas eve, some of the photos taken after the holiday were shot with the new Sony Cybershot DSC-W730 camera I received for Christmas. Enjoy this captivating spectacle of nature!

Snow's Masterpieces On The First Of December

During the winter of 2013 I became fascinated by photographing patterns in the show. Knowing the weather pattern of the area I live in fairly well,I wasn't sure if the opportunity to extend on that idea would present itself again before years end. Usually the months of November and December in New England are relatively dry until after Christmas when we usually get one or two massive 'Nor Easter's. Earlier this year, there were many such storms in succession. While there were two minor early morning snow flurry's last month, this is the first time I remember seeing any significant snow accumulation on the very first day of December-occurring almost like clockwork. Although it was hardly a 'Nor Easter and winter is still weeks away, the weather conditions presented some wonderful artistic patterns from the melding of natural and artificial elements. So natures own works of art hopefully present themselves well in these black & white images.
